We have a new full time position available for a Substance Abuse Peer Recovery Coach in our clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa. UCS Healthcare is a CARF-accredited, non-profit health care organization based in West Des Moines, Iowa with additional offices in Knoxville and Ankeny and medication units across the state offering medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opiate/alcohol addiction. We offer a competitive hourly wage.

Reports To: Grant Director

Function: Offers support services from a peer perspective to individuals with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder. Operates in alignment with UCS Healthcare core values. Is a team player, provides patient centered care and strives to provide the highest level of care.

Duties: Includes but are not limited to:

Follow all Federal, State of Iowa, and agency policies and laws, including those pertaining to patient confidentiality, including HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2 and CARF requirements.
Offers services in the community.
Serves as an advocate.
Provides information and support for individuals in emergency, outpatient, or inpatient settings as well as transitional services.
Performs a wide range of tasks to assist members in regaining control over their lives and recovery process.
Role models competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills
Assist patients in developing personal goals for recovery.
Develops an individualized crisis plan for each patient.
Assists patients in developing a recovery action plan.
Teach and role model the value of own individual recovery experience.
Develops a supportive relationship.
Utilizes and teaches problem solving techniques with individuals and groups.
Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies
Collaborates with other team members
Promote recovery.
Remove barriers.
Connect recoverees with recovery support services.
Encourages hope, optimism, and healthy living.

Preferred Education and Experience: . Trained in the required models for recovery coaches.

Preferred Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: excellent verbal and written communication skills, empathetic, ability to develop a supportive relationship, ability to teach problem solving techniques.

Requirements: At least two years of substance use disorder recovery and at least two years of abstinence required. Must also have a current drivers license, insurance and reliable transportation.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-5 but may vary some depending on the on needs of the client.
